Slow Me Down 03:50
1. Slow Me Down (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) The world is getting louder so I threw the TV out - I said goodbye to all those plastic girls with tans the whole year round. I want a real life. So I’m growing basil on my window sill; the leaves are turning red outside and I’m bracing for the chill because life here is slowing down. Slow me down. Watch the circle come around. I was made in the 70s so at heart I’m just a peacenik poet – a child of the dream. I’ve got crystals in my pocket and I wanna know your sign; I believe in things that I can’t see but they’re bigger and slower and they move in me. Slow me down – watch the circle come around. I’m tired of the traffic in my head and on the street. I’m tired of reality TV shows that don’t mean a thing and I’m tired of ‘the scene’ – give me trees… Give me Echo Point and Govett’s Leap or the view from Mt. York Obelisk into the Hartley Valley – give me real beauty. Y’see all I want is a life that’s real – made up of small details we live too fast to feel like these seeds sprouting from the ground. I long to live in time with the planet but we’re moving too fast for it. Slow me down. Watch the fruit fall to the ground when the leaves are turning brown watch the circle come around.

2. All in Good Time (Rachael Brady/Clayton Doley) I let the bird out the cage today – the one that sings your name – from my heart to the sky I watched it fly and it won’t be back again. how many heartaches in a day? How many pills for the pain? How many silent cries? How many long goodbyes? I won’t be coming back again. I will forget you all in good time and I’ll get through this. I’ll be fine. You can’t stack the odds in your favour – love’s the wrist given to the razor – so bleed me dry – honey walk on by – I won’t be coming back again. I will forget you all in good time and I’ll get through this. I’ll be fine.

Cowboy Shirt 02:18
3. Cowboy Shirt (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) Pretty American boy dancing like a fool on a hill in a cowboy shirt to ‘faith’, my heart was a child. I think I fell in love with you right there & then. Oh my darlin’ won’t you come n’see me - catch a bird fly over the sea - come n’marry me. To all m’friends I was crazy they said : he’ll kill you in your sleep – take all o’ your money & pride leave you with nuthin to keep. But brave and restless you flew on through the night with a prayer in your one suitcase, dreamin’ of a brand new life with a brand new wife. You still have that old cowboy shirt.

4. Happy Girl Blues (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) She’s a happy girl but there’s a gnawing in her stomach. But it’s okay – she forgives herself because she’s doing her best. She’s a loving girl but sometimes she can’t even love herself. How can that be? How can she not see that she’s so at odds with herself - her worst enemy. I’m still learning to love me, still setting myself free – still learning to love me – still learning to love – learning to… I’m a hopeful girl who swims with her head just above the water and I must be afraid to dive down for all the reasons I find not to….but it’s okay, I forgive myself.

5. I’ve Learned Enough (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) I’ve learned enough from my mistakes to know the truth of “whatsoever you reap is only what you’ve sown”. I’ve learned enough from love and loss to know the joy lies not in holding on, it’s in learning to let go. But it’s the hardest thing and I’m still learning. I know enough of greed and fear to understand that the fear of having not enough will make a greedy man, and the fear of being not enough demands we have more things yet we fight to fill the space inside from the emptiness they bring. I know enough of happiness to say the joy lies not in what we keep it’s in what we give away. But it’s the hardest thing and I’m still learning.

When 02:50
7.When (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) Happiness is an elusive little bird you’ve heard that you’re chasing to catch and keep in a golden cage - you tell yourself that you have it and you hold it in your arms on the darkest nights so you never have to feel afraid - but here you are (poor boy) and the joy escapes you and a spiral begins and descent is steep. From beneath the scars that criss-cross a tender heart come all the enemies of a restful sleep. So what if daddy was a drunk and you’re never good enough and death terrifies you all the time? When does life stop belonging to ghosts and fears – when does it start being yours and mine? While you’re waiting for some perfect life to happen, our life is passing by. And while you’re waiting for the right time to be happy, we’re running out of time. Happiness is an elusive little bird you’ve heard that you’re chasing to catch and keep in a golden cage - tell yourself that you have it and you hold it in your arms on the darkest nights so you never have to feel afraid.

6. Love will Overcome (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) Turned against each other we are burning this place down, trying to find a way out of the fear. I can’t help but wonder what it is we’ve undone - but then I tell myself that love will overcome. It hurts that there is suffering and that the world is sad. We can’t get along; we’re violent and unkind. But I can still imagine peace – I’m not the only one – so I tell myself that love will overcome. There’s a little bird inside my soul that sings a song, some days silent but always trusting of the dawn - perching patient, white and quiet as a dove singing one song – love. Love’ll overcome because it’s the best of what we are, love’ll overcome because it’s helped us get this far, love’ll overcome and it’s going to lead us home – love will overcome.

8. New Eyes to See (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) All this is my perception; it’s just a dream. How I long to know I’ve already woken in the arms of the one who loves me, free from the shadow of our limitations and a world divided in its expectations of good and bad, wrong and right. Release us from the burden of this loveless sight and give us new eyes to see. If we stand close enough together it might feel like forever and anyway it’s our fate but here in this illusion that we’ve created called time, we wait… separated, divided, alone. We are standing on the edge of an endless sea of love but our eyes are closed – give me new eyes to see. If you’re feeling empty but you don’t know why, turn to your brother, there the answer lies - and simply ask for new eyes to see him as he really is and you will see yourself. Ask for new eyes to see your sister in all her glory & perfection free of sin & guilt & loved and whole - with these new eyes you will see yourself. You will see yourself for what you really are: Loved & Whole – you will see yourself.

9.LOVE is All That Matters (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) It does not concern me to what god you pray or if you pray at all, but my brother would you stop to help me up if I were to fall? All I need to know - all I need to remember is that when we start making it complicated, LOVE is all there is and LOVE is all that matters. I do not mean to ever step upon your toes – I don’t want to cause you any grief. All I really want for myself and for you is to get through this thing in one piece. All I really know - all that I can remember is that when we start making it complicated, LOVE is all there is and LOVE is all that matters. Love is all that matters. If I give you all the LOVE I have, in the giving I am replenished. If I give you all my LOVE I’ve got nothing left to lose. If I give you all the LOVE I have you can’t take it from me. If I give you all my LOVE I’ve got nothing left to prove. All I really know – all that I can remember is that when we start making it complicated: LOVE is all there is and LOVE is all that matters. Love is all that matters. There is a widening circle around my heart – you are in it – you are all in it - and you’ve been there from the start.

Peeling (free) 03:14
Peeling (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) Peeling, peeling, identity revealing - past the form and into the feeling, there to find an empty canvas or a starless sky – words and faces images and traces of shapes connections emotions and affections – all I surrender and will to remember what I am underneath the lie - under all my 10,000 skins - under all of my ideas and then underneath all that again to the quiet space and then to listen. To listen to quiet - I need quiet - the world is so loud but I’d rather not fight it, I’m not turning my back exactly, I’m just facing in all the better to see you. Peeling, peeling the layers back to reveal that I’ve always had everything I thought I lacked and more – I am beautiful. And you are beautiful – and WE ARE BEAUTIFUL so why slum around on the floor when you’re beautiful? when you’re so much more – more than beautiful – so much more – more beautiful than your clothes your skin your race the place you were born in, how old how young what you’re trying to become to make up for everything you think you haven’t done your money your fear everything you hold dear your plans your dreams your career it all stays here and none of it is you and none of it is me… so I’m peeling the layers away - soon there’ll be nothing more to say as my true face stands revealed. And I will know you by your real name with none of these illusions standing in the way and we will know that we are the same when we peel everything away.

11. Walk in the Sun (Nigel Kerr/Rachael Brady) I took a walk in the sun to clear my mind – there are still so many answers I have yet to find – but the further I walk I’m okay not knowing just where the path in the sun might be going. I’m okay. I breathed in the clean air today, to ease my mind – it sounds so simple when you say it like that but it’s so hard sometimes to return to the center and remember to breathe – to forgive, to forget, to love, to let go, to set myself free. Be free. Just be. I took a walk in the sun and it cleared my mind – there really aren’t that many answers I need to find. And the further I walk I’m okay with just knowing if love lays a path down in front of me I just need to keep following… gotta keep following… keep on following… following love.

about

"Good for dinner parties, new romance, lolling in the grass or looking at stars, as well as any other significantly starry-eyed moments, it’s music for breakfast, lunch and tea, but it is particularly good in the late eve, when the party’s over and weary heads are resting and you have the night all to yourself."

Rachael Brady Sydney, Australia

Rachael Brady has one of those voices you only find in singers grounded by their guts into a life deeply & often messily lived.
It isn't sweet, high or perfect.
It’s a voice that sings its scars & imperfections.
It’ll probably sing some of yours too.
Brady is currently (2022) recording her 4th studio album "Bears, Witches & Wolves" with Blue Mountains based producer Josh Schuberth.
